They say MAN is a thinking creature. He is capable of directing himself hence he determines his destiny. But I think it is incumbent to note that a knowledgeable person is in capacity to think and produce results. He is in capacity to look into a situation and provide a way forward. He becomes progress-oriented.For avoidance of doubt -I'm not basing my observation on the number of academic papers one possesses or the fluency in which one speaks. Here I talk of knowledge that is useful and has been put into action.Knowledge that brings smile and happiness to many.Knowledge that accommodates creativity.Yes,this is what I talk about!
We ought to be sincere with ourselves! Our development is not pegged on the amount of natural resources we boast of,it is instead pegged on manpower and the brains in action. These are minds that churn out results and creativity.Minds that look at "value additions" as the way to go,not "praying" for more deposits to be discovered -to do this is like to strangle oneself and expect the angels of life to descend from above to resuscitate you.Value additions call for informed guys;guys that see success in everything and anything;guys that transform any shortcoming into assets and business. That is why I admire the chaps in shanties. These men and women are wise and visionary.Out of their filthy environment they call home they produce results that baffle many. Results that transform the lives of many. These are employment creators! They have hit the ground running. They demonstrate that wealth is first created in the brains, whatever we see outside are mere manifestations of our thoughts.
We do talk of illiteracy. The cause of this?Lack of facilities and space they say!And so I ask;instead of pumping millions of dollars in phantom "conferences" and "seminars" under the pretext of appraising the world about "biting illiteracy" and "upgrading" existing learning facilities why can't we build mixed day secondary schools within a radius of say three kilometers and let the population manage it from there? The bottom line is eradicating illiteracy. It is not which school one went to!
I talked of value additions. This takes me to the streets. This is where we see(on daily basis) industrious men and women sell their produce. But what pains me is the neglect these guys receive. They are seen as a destitute group. Some even go ahead and throw insults at them. They are branded thieves and unwanted group.I think by doing this,we miss the point. These "intellectuals" (if I should call them so) are good. Not just in character but in brains. These men and women are the engines and wheels that propel the planet. All they need is simple; accept them as pivotal segment of society and nurture their ideas. Then they will never disturb you again. You will live in "peace" knowing you've cleared the "nuisance" off the streets. And this can't be done by anyone;it is done by men and women with knowledge and goodwill.RISE UP MEN AND WOMEN WITH KNOWLEDGE!
